TEDx in PRISON

I can come to these programs and deal with what I need to in a real, authentic way. It is life altering. I trust these people and that matters. I’m grateful to be a part of what is going on here.”

--D.C., current student and volunteer in the LifeLine Community Center at Marion Correctional

Those of us who’ve been in prison, used drugs, been expelled from school, are homeless, experiencing trauma, poverty or abuse don’t need helpers swooping in to “fix” us. In fact, forget the idea of help. What we want is community. And a voice. We know something others don’t—people in adversity are powerful assets. Everything HBC does comes from this radically inclusive understanding.”

--E., former LifeLine program aide and currrent HBC Downtown staff
