Marion Reentry Community Center (LifeLine)

Healing Broken Circles (HBC) runs the Marion Reentry Community Center inside of Marion Correctional Institution, Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections (ODRC). We provide specially-designed strength-based programming, developed in partnership with the populations we serve and offered in a safe environment where participants feel that they belong, learn concepts, master skills, exercise independent thinking and living, and give back and pay forward.

At Lifeline:

  • Participants spend 5,500 hours per semester in programming

  • Average weekly attendance in all programs is 500

  • Programming is 100% voluntary

"HBC is not just programming,
it's a way of life."

Our participants tell us that the word "programming" does not adequately capture the personal growth, improved well-being and cultural shift that they experience within Healing Broken Circles.

Programs are essential and many of the men who come to us have significant gaps in education and life skills. For this reason we focus strongly on learning, but we focus just as strongly on behavior and culture.

All of us together—volunteers, staff (both inside and outside), contractors, visitors, coaches, mentors and participants—are responsible for our environment. As such, each one of us endeavors to "live what we learn" and engage with a deep understanding of each person's inherent worth, dignity and capability.

  • Funding
Specific programs are funded through a contract with ODRC. Others rely on grants, private foundations and individual donors.

  • Schedule
The LifeLine Center is open seven days a week and is staffed by HBC contractors weekdays from 7:30AM–4:00PM.

  • Staff
HBC provides full- and part-time staff for the Community Center, as well as many volunteers who bring their expertise to this work.

  • Participants
Many prison programs have restrictions on who they are allowed to serve based on conditions such as, length of time until release, age, education level and conduct.  At Healing Broken Circles, we are fortunate that we are able to be open to everyone.
We believe everyone has capabilities and should be offered the opportunity and support needed to thrive. We serve the men that others have given up on, or seem to have given up on themselves, as well as the already motivated and striving.
